Dear BPS Community,
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our students, Madison Barbieri, a 2nd-grade student at Stafford Elementary School. Birdie, as she was affectionately known, was a cherished member of our school community who brought joy to all who knew her. I had the pleasure of meeting Birdie a few months ago; her humor, strength, and character filled the room. Our entire community feels this loss deeply, as she touched the lives of many people across the district. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Counselors and support staff will be available at Stafford tomorrow to help students and staff process this tragic loss together. Building administrators have been encouraged to notify their school's crisis teams and ensure that their clinical staff are prepared to support any students or staff who may be affected. We have also reached out to Wheeler Clinic services, and they are ready to provide additional support as needed. The attached resources are designed to help families and staff discuss grief with their children and students.
Though her time with us was far too short, she left a lasting impact that will continue to inspire us all. Let us move forward with the same love, spirit, and courage that Madison showed us.
With deepest sympathy,
Iris White
Acting Superintendent of Schools
