Acting Superintendent
Iris White was appointed Superintendent for Bristol Public Schools, on May 7, 2025. Ms. White has a background of more than 30 years in public education at the state, local, and school levels. Ms. White started her career as a special education teacher for grades four through six, in Albany NY. She moved to Connecticut in 2001 to accept a position as AFT Connecticut’s first Professional Development Coordinator. While there, Ms. White developed training programs for teachers, paraeducators, health care professionals, and state employees. She left AFT Connecticut in 2008, to accept a position as an Education Consultant at the Connecticut State Department of Education where she worked in the Turnaround Office, which supports designated Alliance Districts, Commissioner’s Network schools, and School Improvement Grant Schools.
Ms. White received a B.S. degree in Special Education from the College of Saint Rose, followed by a M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the State University of NY at Albany. Ms. White earned her 092 Administrative Certificate and completed the University of Connecticut Executive Leadership Program to obtain her 093 Superintendent Certification.
Interim Deputy Superintendent
Mrs. Hawk brings 30 years of dedicated service to the Bristol school district, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence and community building. Her career in education began in Hekinan-Cho, Japan, where she spent a year teaching English to students ranging from elementary school children to Pfizer executives.
Upon returning to the United States, she joined Bristol Eastern High School part time for a year before transitioning to Chippens Hill Middle School. While at Chippens Hill, she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, serving as an educational ambassador to Costa Rica, where she toured the country for two months and provided guidance on special education advancements. Additionally, she earned a full scholarship to attend the Yale Summer Session on developments in African Studies.
After obtaining her 092 certification, she spent three years as an assistant principal at East Hartford Middle School before returning to Chippens Hill as an assistant principal. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in leading Chippens Hill to be recognized as the Connecticut Association of Schools’ Middle School of the Year.
She later became the principal of Mountain View Elementary School, where she has spent the past decade fostering a high-achieving school community. Under her leadership, Mountain View was recognized as a Connecticut School of Distinction by the Connecticut State Department of Education for the 2022-2023 school year.
Chief of Academics
Mrs. Carly Fortin has spent over 35 years as a student, educator, and administrator in the Bristol Public Schools. Mrs. Fortin began her career with Bristol Public Schools as a Bristol Eastern High School sophomore when she was hired to enter data for Bristol Adult Education. While continuing to work in various positions in Adult Education, she earned her Master's degree from the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Program at the University of Connecticut, graduating from their Honors Program Summa Cum Laude.
Mrs. Fortin began her teaching career as an English teacher at Bristol Central High School and, four years later, was hired as their literacy coach. She earned her sixth-year degree and administrative certificate through the UCAPP Educational Leadership program at UCONN. In 2005, she was hired as the Teaching and Learning Supervisor for Humanities, where she worked with educators at the middle and high school levels. Mrs. Fortin returned to Bristol Eastern High School in 2008 as an Assistant Principal for three years and Principal for four years. In 2017, Mrs. Fortin was named the Director of Teaching and Learning, a position that allows her to use her love for teaching and learning each day, interacting with educators across the district.

Mrs. Amy Martino joins the Central Office team in her new capacity as Director of Special Services. During her tenure with the Bristol Public Schools, Mrs. Martino served as a School Psychologist for Memorial Boulevard Middle School and Bristol Eastern High School. She has served as the Supervisor of Special Services for schools across the district at all levels since 2015. Before Bristol, Mrs. Amy Martino served the Middletown and Hebron Public Schools as a School Psychologist while holding building and district leadership roles.
Mrs. Amy Martino earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University. She earned her Master of Science and 6th Year equivalent in School Psychology from the University of Hartford and holds a specialist designation in child clinical counseling. She later attended Sacred Heart University for her Administrative certification. In 2022, Mrs. Martino was awarded one of twenty-five seats in the UCONN Aspiring Leaders Academy, working alongside esteemed state leaders in Special Education. Mrs. Martino is currently a doctoral student at Sacred Heart University. She is expected to complete her Doctor of Educational Leadership in May 2025, specializing in social-emotional and academic learning.
Mrs. Amy Martino is passionate about leading high-quality Special Education practices within Bristol Public Schools. She values student and family relationships. Her particular areas of focus include inclusive practices and social-emotional learning.
