Dear BPS Community,
I am pleased to announce the Bristol Board of Education approved Mrs. Mary Hawk's appointment as Acting Deputy Superintendent this evening. Principal Hawk brings 30 years of dedicated service to the Bristol school district, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence and community building. Her career in education began in Hekinan-Cho, Japan, where she spent a year teaching English to students ranging from elementary school children to Pfizer executives.
Upon returning to the United States, she joined Bristol Eastern High School part-time for a year before transitioning to Chippens Hill Middle School. While at Chippens Hill, she was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, serving as an educational ambassador to Costa Rica, where she toured the country for two months and provided guidance on special education advancements. Additionally, she earned a full scholarship to attend the Yale Summer Session on developments in African Studies.
After obtaining her 092 certification, she spent three years as an assistant principal at East Hartford Middle School before returning to Chippens Hill as an assistant principal. During her tenure, she was pivotal in leading Chippens Hill to be recognized as the Connecticut Association of Schools’ Middle School of the Year.
She later became the principal of Mountain View Elementary School, where she has spent the past decade fostering a high-achieving school community. Under her leadership, the Connecticut State Department of Education recognized Mountain View as a Connecticut School of Distinction for the 2022-2023 school year.
Now, as she transitions into the role of Acting Deputy Superintendent, Principal Hawk’s extensive experience, leadership, and deep commitment to Bristol’s students and educators will serve the district well.
